Moses Soren Garff and Vera Marie Garff

Moses Soren Garff, born November 10, 1879 in Draper, Utah was a businessman in Midvale and Magna with his wife, operating several grocery and meat markets. Active in civic associations, he was enthusiastic in Scouting and served on the Midvale City Council for two years. He passed away in 1962.
Moses married Mary Rasmussen, an immigrant from Denmark, who came to Utah with her parents in 1883. Their marriage was solemnized in 1906 at the LDS Salt Lake Temple. Mary passed away in 1958.
They were parents to Newell K Garff and Beverly Garff Holt. They rest in the Draper Cemetery.

Vera Marie Garff was born in Logan in 1903, the only child of Christian Nielsen Garff and Caroline Hildestad of Norway. After a short marriage to Melvin O. Brown she married Turner Waddy St Clair in 1925 and in this marriage had two children, Turner Jr and James C. St Clair. On the 1930 Federal Census, Turner St Clair worked with the Street Rail lines of San Diego.

Vera passed away in Spanish Fork in 1931 of acute myocarditis, at age 28. She is buried in the Spanish Fork Cemetery.

  1. Can anyone help confirm a child from Vera's first marriage? I found a note referring to Oren G. Brown, I wrote down Oren Garff Brown and the dates are appropriate to the dates of that marriage, but I have not supporting records. The name and spelling are the same (Melvin Oren Brown). kk

  2. I received a note from Kelly Parker regarding a question about Vera's family:
I believe this was on the Ancestry bulletin board. I'm not a member on Ancestry, so I am not sure. Under the listing for Vera Marie Garff, it lists her oldest child by her second husband as Turner Waddie S.t Clair, Jr. This is actually Oren G. Brown--he was not officially adopted, but was renamed this while he was still very young and living with Turner and "Brownie". After she died, he was placed with various relatives until he volunteered for the Navy in 1941. It was the first time he had ever seen his birth certificate--with his true name--and he went by that officially for the rest of his life. Within the family, he was still always called "Junior."
It also says he died in 1985--it was 1982.
    Thanks for replying--
